Memorial Day, 2010

Remembering Those Who Have Sacrificed for Us
Pastor Adrian Rogers

"And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the Lord brought you out from this place." Exodus 13:3

Each year, Americans remember those brave-hearted souls who fought and gave their lives so that you and I would have the rights and privileges of living in a free country. Remembering is important. In fact, God instructs His people on many occasions in the Old Testament to remember from whence they came and to remember His providence.

It is by the mighty hand of God that we are saved, we are protected, and we are free to live in the Land of the Brave. Never take that freedom for granted, my friend. It is a precious commodity for which the world hungers, and it is a powerful charge for you and me to protect.

Do you know of someone in your life who has served in the armed forces of this country? Make it a point this week to express to them your gratitude for their service.

You Are The Sunshine of My Life by Stevie Wonder

You are the sunshine of my life
That's why I'll always be around
You are the apple of my eye
Forever you'll stay in my heart

I feel like this is the beginning
'though I've loved you for a million years
And if I thought our love was ending
I'd find myself drowning in my own tears
Whoa whoa

You are the sunshine of my life
That's why I'll always stay around
You are the apple of my eye
Forever you'll stay in my heart

You must have known that I was lonely
Because you came to my rescue
And I know that this must be heaven
How could so much love be inside of you

Hope you have a great Memorial Day!

Trisha Yearwood - Hearts In Armor

One more day
My heart's in armor
Though I meant to let you in
In an effort not to harm it
I have missed my chance again

I was singing when I freed you
But my pride was just a veil
I pretended not to need you
Now my heart tells a different tale

And every hour that goes by
The harder I become
Because I let that well run dry
Because I left you unanswered

Then like a fool I kept my secret
When it made no sense to try
Now I can no longer keep it
For it's late and the moon is high

And every hour that goes by
The harder I become
Because I let that well run dry
Because I left you unanswered

One more day my heart's in armor
Though I did not see it then
I would finish what you started
If I had that chance again

I would finish what you started
If I had that chance again

Better Than A Hallelujah

Troubled? Try Praise!
Deuteronomy 20:1-4

A lot of negative emotions accompany hardship: frustration, despair, fear, and doubt. People ruled by those feelings often make poor choices. This is why I recommend that you decide now to respond to troubled times the way the Israelites did: with praise. Even in the darkest hours, worshipping God fills the heart with joy and the mind with peace. A believer who is filled in this way can wisely keep a commitment to obey the Lord no matter what.

Worshipping the Lord enlarges our vision. By doing so, we begin to see how He is at work in the world, perhaps in ways and places we never noticed before. More particularly, we see what God is doing in our situation and notice areas where He requires our obedience.

Our human tendency is to plot a course through a situation toward the easiest solution. But believers who strike out on their own do not mature in faith. Moreover, they miss out on the blessings of following the Lord's plan. Stopping to praise can divert us from the easy way out and direct us to the right path—namely, the way of God's will. Taking a step forward in faith can be frightening. However, believers are completely safe risking their whole future on the Lord's faithfulness. He has never disappointed anyone!

It's hard to despair while honoring the Lord for His love and strength. We can dispel doubt by recalling His past faithfulness—and ease frustration by committing our future plans to Him. Praise is not the obvious reaction to hardship, but it is the wisest response a hymn of praise!

Praise Him! Praise Him!

Praise Him! praise Him!
Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!
Sing, O Earth,
His wonderful love proclaim!
Hail Him! hail Him!
highest archangels in glory;
Strength and honor
give to His holy Name!
Like a shepherd,
Jesus will guard His children,
In His arms He carries them all day long.

Chorus:

Praise Him! praise Him!
tell of His excellent greatness;
Praise Him! praise Him!
ever in joyful song!

Praise Him! praise Him!
Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!
For our sins He suffered,
and bled and died.
He our Rock,
our hope of eternal salvation,

Hail Him! hail Him!
Jesus the Crucified.
Sound His praises!
Jesus who bore our sorrows;
Love unbounded,
wonderful, deep and strong.

Praise Him! praise Him!
Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!
Heav'nly portals
loud with hosannas ring!
Jesus, Savior, reigneth forever and ever;

Crown Him! crown Him!
Prophet and Priest and King!
Christ is coming!
over the world victorious,
Pow'r and glory unto the Lord belong.
—Fanny Crosby, 1869

There is no better time than right now to be happy!

Happiness Is A Journey...
-- Father Alfred D'Souza

Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

Dance as though no one is watching you.
Love as though you have never been hurt before.
Sing as though no one can hear you.
Live as though heaven is on earth.

Sara Bareilles-Many The Miles (Live at the Fillmore)

There's too many things that i haven't done yet
Too many sunsets
I haven't seen
You can't waste the day wishing it'd slow down
You would've thought by now
I'd have learned something

I made up my mind when i was a young girl
I've been given this one world
I won't worry it away
But now and again I lose sight of the good life
I get stuck in a low light
But then Love comes in

How far do i have to go to get to you
Many the miles
Many the miles
How far do i have to go to get to you
Many the miles
But send me the miles and i'll be happy to follow you Love

I do what i can wherever i end up
To keep giving my good love
And spreading it around
Cause i've had my fiar share of take care and goodbyes
I've learned how to cry
And i'm better for that

Sing how far do I have to go to get to you
Many the miles
Many the miles
How far do i have to go to get to you
Many the miles
Send me the miles and I'll be happy to
Follow you Love

Red letter day and i'm in a blue mood
Wishing that blue would just carry me away
I've been talking to God don't know
If it's helping or not
But surely something has got to got to got to give
Cause i can't keep waiting to live

How far do I have to go to get to you
Many the miles
Many the miles
How far do i have to go to get to you
Many the miles
But send me the miles and I'll be happy to yeah
How far do I have to go to get to you
Many the miles
Many the miles
How far do I have to go to get to you
Many the miles
Many the miles
Been talking to God don't know if it's helping or not
Many the miles
Many the miles
How far do I have to go to get to you
Many the miles
Many the miles
Oh send me the miles and I'll be happy to
Follow you Love

There's too many things I haven't done yet
Too many sunsets I haven't seen

Song for a Friend

SEINFIELD

George Costanza: I'll sniff out a deal. I have a sixth sense.
Jerry: Cheapness is not a sense.

"There are friends who point the way to ruin, others are closer than a brother." Proverbs 18:24

TNT - Men of a Certain Age
MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE explores the unique bonds of male friendship among three men experiencing the changes and challenges of mid-life.

"A friend can tell you things you don't want to tell yourself." ~Frances Ward Weller

"Song for a Friend" - Jason Mraz

Well you're magic he said
But don't let it all go to your head
Well I bet if you all had it all figured out
Then you'd never get out of bed
No doubt
All the thing's that I've read what he wrote me
Is now sounding like the man I was hoping
To be
Keep on keeping it real
Cause it keeps getting easier indeed
He's the reason that I'm laughing
Even if there's no one else
He said, you've got to love yourself

You say, you shouldn't mumble when you speak
But keep your tongue up in your cheek
And if you stumble on to
You better remember that it's humble that you seek
You got all the skill you need,
Individuality
You got something
Call it gumption
Call it anything you want
Because when you play the fool now
You're only fooling everyone else
You're learning to love yourself

Yes you are

There's no price to pay
When you give and what you take,
That's why it's easy to thank you
You...

Let's say take a break from the day
And get back to the old garage
Because life's too short anyway
But at least it's better then average
As long as you got me
And I got you
You know we'll got a lot to go around
I'll be your friend
Your other brother
Another love to come and comfort you
And I'll keep reminding
If it's the only thing I ever do
I will always love
I will always love you
Yes you
I will always, always, always, always love
I will always, always love
I will always, always love, love

Climb up over the top.
Survey the state of the soul.
You've got to find out for yourself whether or not you're truly trying.
Why not give it a shot?
Shake it. Take control and inevitably wind up
Find out for yourself all the strengths you have inside of you.

Sanctified

I gave my back to those who beat me; my cheeks to those who pluck my beard: My face I did not shield from buffets and spitting. ~ Isaiah 50:6

Untitled Poem
by KoolChristian Girl

Broken chains
He came to set us free
But we aren't living in the freedom He gave
He came to break our chains
But we choose to live in bondage.

Time and time again
We turn to what won't satisfy
We choose the pain
We choose the sadness
When life and abundant joy is being offered.

Chains have been broken
But still we sit in our prison cell
He came and bailed us out
And the walls have been broken down
But we stay in the place we once knew
Because we are comfortable there.

Our broken past
Has been forgiven
Yet we constantly replay the memories in our mind
We've been given authority over the demonic
A sword in our hand
Yet we stand by as if he has the authority.

This message will not be easy to hear
Because we don't want to admit
That we're holding ourselves back
And we won't walk through the open door.

He's given us the keys to life
But we choose death
By walking away from Him
When we know that He has so much more to offer.

Time and time again
We turn to what won't satisfy
We choose the pain
We choose the sadness
When life and abundant joy is being offered.

Chains have been broken
But still we sit in our prison cell
He came and bailed us out
And the walls have been broken down
But we stay in the place we once knew
Because we are comfortable there.

Jesus is our deliverer
And He broke every chain
When He shed His blood
And paid for every sin
But we still choose to turn away from Him.

He came and He forgave us
But still we let shame rule us
He came and He opened the door
But we won't walk through it
For fear that He might hurt us or lead us astray.

He came and He broke the chains
But we pick them back up again
Because we are more comfortable in them
Then we cry out asking why won't He free us
When He whispers
I already have.

Time and time again
We turn to what won't satisfy
We choose the pain
We choose the sadness
When life and abundant joy is being offered.

Chains have been broken
But still we sit in our prison cell
He came and bailed us out
And the walls have been broken down
But we stay in the place we once knew
Because we are comfortable there.

Our chains are broken
Our sins are forgiven
We are set free
But we refuse to move
And we let the pain keep us down.

Life comes and it will wear us down
But we are faced with a choice
We can either lay our burdens down
And move forward to the life He has offered
Or sit in our prison cells
Missing out on life
And letting the enemy rule over you.

We are children
We are warriors
And we've been given armor to fight
We have a powerful sword in our hand
And He has taught us how to fight
But so many times we believe the lie
And let the enemy win.

God wants to move in your life
But you have to let Him
If you are willing to move forward
He will carry you through the valley.

But time and time again
We turn to what won't satisfy
We choose the pain
We choose the sadness
When life and abundant joy is being offered.

Chains have been broken
But still we sit in our prison cell
He came and bailed us out
And the walls have been broken down
But we stay in the place we once knew
Because we are comfortable there.

If the Son has set you free
Then you are truly free
So why then do we sit in darkness?
When His light is willing to break through
Why do we pick up our chains?
When we know He has set us free?

In Christ we are
Fully forgiven
Fully free
Fully accepted
Fully cleansed by His blood.

We aren't struggling to be free
But we are free to be struggling
Life is about a choice
Pain will come
Heartache will come
But we are God's children
And we are His warriors
And we've been given a sword to fight.

So warriors pick up your swords
And start fighting
Drop your chains
Because He set you free for a reason
It is for freedom that Christ has set you free
Not to pick up your chains and sit in your bondage
Let's stand in the freedom given to us.

Time and time again
We turn to what won't satisfy
We choose the pain
We choose the sadness
When life and abundant joy is being offered.

Chains have been broken
But still we sit in our prison cell
He came and bailed us out
And the walls have been broken down
But we stay in the place we once knew
Because we are comfortable there.

For if Jesus has set us free
(And He has)
Then we are truly free.
John 8:36

It is for FREEDOM
That Christ has set us free
So we will live and walk
In the freedom He gave
It wasn't for no reason that He shed His blood
His shedding blood wasn't in vain
He shed His blood so we could be FREE.
Galatians 5:1

Standing Up For God

"THE GOSPEL OF JESUS: John The Baptist" - John 1:19-37 He prepared the way of the Lord, pioneered soul winning, and was the greatest man ever born, according to Jesus...but even he had his doubts, which Christ satisfied!
